More growing!

Wow. It seems like when it rains it pours! It also seems like all I ever do is announce new studio members! But that’s a cool thing to have to do when it means we’re adding such a great bunch of talent to the group! This time around I’m telling you about a couple of new writers adding their pens to the mix. First off is Chuck Kennedy. For those that know me, you know Chuck and I have been friends for several years and have a close kinship in both life outlook and love for comics. Chuck has been there as a good friend through my trials ongoing these last few years and I’ve been fortunate to watch as he and his wife have blessed the world with three kids who make things all the brighter for being here. When I first decided to continue the world I started with Fallen Justice by way of the Dynagirl series I tapped three of my friends first for back up stories because I knew I’d need some help and who better to give it than the three guys who had been with me through the whole genesis? You’ll see Brant Fowler and Jason Berek-Lewis in due time, but Chuck is going first and from our conversations, I think you’ll be more than a little surprised and pleased with the results.

Now then, I said two writers right? Yep, sure did! In addition to Chuck, we’ve added Erik Hendrix to the mix around here. Erik is currently deeply embroiled in the Small Press Idol contest and doing well thus far. He’s prolific, and funny, and perfect for a Dynagirl story, and that’s what he’s doing. We’re still working out the specifics as to when and what, but for the record, Erik’s in and working hard so count on it happening, and soon.

Speaking of Dynagirl, we’re wrapped on the first six script plots. I’m adding dialog on them now and they should be in the can next week or so. Then i’m adding in a two part arc before turning things over to Chuck and his story, and then Erik right on his heels. Once that’s done and I’ve had my break (cause lord knows I need it!) I’ll be back on the pen for another 6-8 issues before giving my girl over yet again for some guest writers. We’re planning to continue like that for the foreseeable future, provided the public digs it. So buy our books would ya!

For today that’s about it. I’ve got a class to take, and some comics to send off to the printer, so I’m outta here. Till next time!

You’ve GOT to be kidding me!

Nope. I’m dead serious. It’s update time people, and this one is a doozy. I mentioned we were adding some talent to Red Handed Studios, and that’s now a done deal. If you paid any attention to the buzz behind Small Press Idol 2007 you are quite aware of a guy named Scottie Ray Watson. His book Talon took the gold and won the whole thing. Since then Scottie’s been busy, but in other areas, leaving his comic art for a bit. But he’s got things lined out now, and he’s back with a vengeance! And, in case you hadn’t guessed, he’s now a member of Red Handed Studios!

So what does that mean? Well for starters we’ll be working on an all new series yet to be named, but already in production. The series features a strong ass kicking sword wielding chick, much like Talon, but we’ve set this series in the far future, where technology is king, and the old ways are all but forgotten. Trust me, the energy level is high and you’re not gonna believe how cool this is gonna be. Also in the works we’re in talks to get another sword wielding chick drawn by Scottie over here as well. But we’ll have to leave you wondering about that for the time being.

But wait, that’s not all! Co-writing this title will be RD Hall, (lately of the Heroes Graphic novels) a prolific and exciting addition to the team! We’ve got the wheels turning and trust me, you won’t be disappointed.

But again, there’s more! We’re putting The Kansas Hit back into production with Virginia Mills-Barfield rocking the art chores! Ginny is also the creator of a series called Windy City, and you’re gonna be seeing her main character Bandit crossing over with our own Dynagirl as well in the coming months. We do so love a cross-over around here and it was a natural to get these two crime fighting girls together! We’re hoping to show you quite a lot of Bandit and Windy City in time, so keep on the lookout for a special announcement about that cause it’s coming shortly!

So, you think that’s it? Nope. We’re also bringing in another inker and a colorist (I’ll tell you who soon!) to round out the fun and help out with the work load so you only get the best possible books in the fastest manner possible. What we won’t do is promise you something we can’t deliver, so if we say it’s ready to go, then you can rest assured it’s gonna be there on time, every time. Will this make our schedule a bit slower? Sure will. But everyone here feels the same as I do, that slower and superior is better than quick and half assed.

On another front we’re registering with Haven distribution and Comics Monkey as well so our books will be easier to get and available to as wide an audience as possible. We’re committed to getting books into the hands of the fans, even if that means we hand deliver them!

So there you go. How’s that for an update? More as we get it folks!

Consolidation and things yet to be said.

Most people who know me either live or over the net know I’ve kept a blog pretty steady since 2005 talking about life, comics and pretty much anything else that came across my radar at random times. It was fun, and theraputic, and trust me, I’m not the guy that takes well to therapy. But like the man says all things in this world come to an end, and so has In Other Words. With the launch of the new website and all the rest of the time constraints that publishing comics entails, I simply do not have time to keep up that blog with any regularity along with this one, and all the rest of the madness. So something had to go, and IOW was what hit the pavement. And yeah, I’ll miss it badly to be honest. I loved that blog. I loved what it allowed me to do when I felt like I had no other outlet for the things I was feeling and thinking. But at the same time lately I’d become hamstrung by some of the same things that made it cool. I guess it’s all good when you can scream at the sky and no one else is listening, but when people begin to listen, you have to be careful what you say. And I suppose that’s what got me to thinking about killing it in the first place. If I can’t be open and honest and free to write what I want to write, well then really, what’s the point? I’ll be keeping it as an archive so in case anyone wants to go back and delve deeply into my world for the last few years they can feel free. It’s weird, so don’t say you weren’t warned.

In RHS news, we’re confirmed for STAPLE! in Austin on March 7, 2009! Looks like we got one of the last tables because when I went to their site they’d announced the show was sold out for exhibitors! So yeah, got in right under the wire on that one! From everything I’ve heard this is a great show so if you’re near the Austin area and get the chance, come on out! We’ll be signing books, selling books, and hopefully other wicked cool merchandise as we get that arranged. Fun will be had by all!

I received the balance of Fallen Justice #6 in the mail this last weekend, which means it’s in the queue to be colored right now and is also being lettered! (I’ve got pretty good communication with the letterer and he feels certain it’ll be done in the next couple of weeks!) I also have it on god authority that the seventh issue art will begin arriving at Red Handed Central in the next week or so! If we keep up this pace we’ll have Dynagirl pages in before spring! Yikes!

One project we’re looking at is putting together a bunch of shorts we’ve completed over the years into one book and putting it out so people can get a feel for just how widespread the stuff here at Red Handed really is. We do make some bad ass superhero comics, but that’s by no means ALL we make! We’ll be including the Grace prologue, as well as the Totem 12 page story completed for Small Press Idol two years ago. I’ll also toss in several pin ups and concept art from all sorts of things I have laying around here, as well as another little short story that I hear might be done soon. We don’t have a name for it yet, but stay tuned on that front. It won’t be long.

In other Totem news, Brant Fowler (writer/creator of Wannabez) is still onboard as the letterer for Totem. It was his gig when we were doing the contest and I felt like if he wanted it, he should have it. So he’s graciously agreed to continue in that regard, and we’re glad to have him!

And…I have in my hand the art for the highly limited edition print available only to subscribers! And hell yeah it rocks! I could put it up here, but I won’t till we wrap the final subs numbers and lock in the print number. These will each be signed by the ENTIRE creative crew and numbered with a certificate of authenticy along with it. As I mention over in the subscriptions section we’ll print these to number and that’s it, we won’t ever print it again. So if you want one the only way to get it is sign up for a series subscription. And you better hurry too, cause it won’t stay open for long!

That should do it for today folks. I’ve got a couple of other things to announce here soon, once I get off my ass and wrap a script or three, but for now, we’ll leave it at that.
